The Hermit asks us to be a beacon of light in this world. To live as an authentic example of our truth and to light the way for others to do the same. The Hermit is not afraid to walk off the beaten path and to live a life that exists outside of social norms. The Hermit knows that living a life that is true to who we really are is more important than our image and trying to fit in.

The Hermit can often be misinterpreted as being lonely. Living our authentic truth isn’t something that everyone is going to agree with or want to participate in. However, The Hermit teaches us that there is a difference between being alone vs being lonely. Learning to enjoy our own company and finding connection within ourselves is important. When we are constantly trying to fit in and walk with the crowd, we find over time that no matter how many people surround us, we will feel something lacking within us and within our soul. A connection with ourselves needs to be nurtured and cultivated through what genuinely feels true to our own selves and to find this we must look within for our own light instead of seeking it in the world around us.

When we are able to cultivate our own light, this naturally becomes the energy that extends out from us. This is how we become a beacon of light within the world, not through force but through genuine example. This sparks hope and inspiration within others, who maybe hide or dim their light because of fear of being different in a world that wants us to all be the same. It helps show others it’s ok to live a life that exists differently than what is expected of us and encourages others to awaken to their own truth and to trust following it. Not because you tell them to do so or ask them to follow you and your truth. But because by showing people what it is like to live and thrive within a different type of lifestyle inspires them to do the same in their own unique way and to know that it is safe to do so.

The Hermit is an example of wisdom, maturity and authenticity and is someone who doesn’t just speak a truth, but lives as a true example by embodying their truth inside and out. We are reminded through the Hermit to be this kind of example in the world. To appreciate the strength it takes to live authentically in our truth and all that we have accomplished and achieved through doing so. And though we may be judged to be lacking in what the world expects from us, in actuality we become richer than most because there is more value in a life lived in truth than there is in a life lived following lies.

Another facet of The Hermit is looking at quality vs quantity. In a world were we are competing for likes and followers, remember that it is better to inspire a few than to pander to the expectations of the masses. A character of quality may not have as many friends as someone who is popular, but what they create in this world will have a lasting and sustaining value, where as those that follow the trends will quickly fade into obscurity when the next ‘it’ thing comes along.

People who are vying for acceptance through image will constantly be changing their masks and always be performing. Exhausting themselves in order to please and be accepted. Eventually though people see through such facades when they one day reach a point where they no longer want or can keep up with it any more. It is in that moment they may find themselves quite alone and look back at their life and realize that they never really genuinely connected with anyone through who they really are, only through who they pretended to be. Sure, on the surface they might tell a story of fun, excitement and success. But what will it be worth in that moment they find themselves alone and wondering if they were every really loved for who they really are, or only for the part that they played in someone else’s play?

People who live true to themselves will never have to dance in that way. Their truth stays consistent and enduring. There is no mask that must be worn in order to fit in. The ones that live life authentic to their own truth will feel content with a life that may not impress many, but will be a life that is truly happy and fulfilling that connects them with people who align with their truth and who genuinely love and accept them for who they truly are.

The Hermit teaches us that being accepted for who you truly are is a gold that is worth much more than the acceptance of many for what you are not.
